Arizona State sophomore Kelcy McKenna had a big weekend representing the Sun Devils at the ITA All-American women’s tennis tournament in Los Angeles.

McKenna won the ITA individual title by defeating the No. 14, No. 9, No. 6 and No. 1 seeds of the tournament. The tournament seeded McKenna at No. 20.

“It’s tough going through five matches in a row,” coach Sheila McInerney said. “You've got to be pretty mentally tough to do that and that’s great for her.”

Beyond the title, the win gave McKenna three other accomplishments. The title qualified McKenna for November’s national indoor tournament in Charlottesville, Va. In addition, the win marked her ninth in a row and won her a spot on the team of American college players that will compete in France in December.

“She doesn't have her passport yet; she’s never been out of the country,” McInerney said. “She has two more tournaments before that, but that’s really exciting for her.
